A Grade win, B and C Grade lose against Golden Grove
The A Grade recorded a fantastic come from behind win at the weekend in a must win game against Golden Grove. It was impossible to pick out best players in a side where all played well however some names who really stood out included Vaughan Noonan at centre half back, Alex Greenslade (five goals) and Seb Moroney (four goals) up forward, Scot Tyndall on the wing and Elliot Opie on the opposite wing.
The side was challenged by an in form Golden Grove in the first quarter and trailed 5.7 to 3.0 at quarter time. Golden Grove looked like they had come to play however the Reds responded to the challenge and ran away with the game in the second half to record a convincing victory.
The same could not be said for the B and C Grade who lost on the same weekend for the first time in 2 years. The B Grade led all day against Golden Grove before a last quarter six goal to three avalanche from the visitors saw the Reds lose by three goals.
The C Grade burst out of the blocks against unbeaten Golden Grove with a 4.1 to 1.0 first quarter. Following this though the boys ran out of legs and Golden Grove put on 8.10 to 2.3. Andrew Newbery kicked three goals for side in his return from injury while Cormac Byrne, Chris Mitchell and Phil Raptopoulos were some of the better players on the day.
The A and B Grade travel to Adelaide Lutheran next round while the C Grade is at home. The A Grade will be looking to maintain momentum and could potentially introduce the new recruit Tony Modra for his debut. The B and C Grade will look to bounce back from losses and consolidate their ladder positions in the top three.
